Who needs Builders Estimator?
There are many Builders that handle their estimating and job costing on a spreadsheet or on
paper. While these methods work and have worked for many years, it is time to step
up to a more functional software to help organize subcontractor and vendor bids and
have control of job costs from bid to project completion.
We have been a Licensed General Building Contractor for over 15 years. We have looked
at several Estimating Software Programs and nearly all have huge database of items
and costs and it is up to the user to calculate quantities of practically every item
in the house.
We have found that to get more accurate estimates we have the subcontractors and
vendors who will actually be providing the work and materials for the project submit
bids. They know the going rate on labor and material and can get a more accurate
price then if we have to calculate how many hours they will take to do their job
or how much material they will consume. We can now be assured that our price is
accurate and we have a written proposal from the subcontractors and vendors.
Builders Estimator has a fully cutomizable database for those items that
you don't want to send out to bid on each estimate. For example if you do your own
Finish Carpentry in house and would like to do your own material takeoff for doors,
base and case, you can enter these items into the database. Each time you do an
estimate on a project select those items from the database, enter their quantities,
and they are automatically added to your estimate.
We also wanted a software to work along with the bid management and handle change orders and
construction draws throughout the construction project. By project completion you have complete
